MGM Macau and MGM Cotai have both committed to adopting the Well Building Standard at scale, in line with MGM China's sustainability objectives.
MGM China has announced that both its integrated resorts, MGM Macau and MGM Cotai, have committed to pursuing certifications under the Well system, becoming the first in their sector in Macau to adopt this international standard.
This announcement follows MGM Cotai's recent achievement of a three-star certification in both Green Building Design and Operation Labels from the China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association.
The Well Building Standard, developed by the International Well Building Institute (IWBI), “outlines key building-level interventions and organisational strategies in 10 categories: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community.”
The Well Building Standard is utilised by companies in the Fortune and Global 500 to “ensure buildings promote health and wellbeing.”
Keith Lei, SVP of Human Resources and Sustainability at MGM China, stated: “The people-centric Well ecosystem aligns perfectly with MGM’s sustainability goals. Through implementing this international standard, MGM aims to create an ideal environment for guests and team members, thus further promoting their health and well-being, while also setting a new benchmark for green and healthy buildings in the Greater Bay Area.”
In addition, MGM China recently organised a responsible gaming training course in partnership with the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) and the Macau Gaming Industry Employees Home Integrated Services Centre. This initiative aims to support those outside the gaming industry in preventing and controlling gambling disorder and to encourage those experiencing gaming-related issues to seek help.
