BGaming has collaborated with Portuguese street artist Gonçalo MAR to produce a floral-themed artwork blending his signature style with characters from several of its games, ahead of SBC Summit 2024 in Lisbon.

The piece forms part of BGaming’s ongoing ‘When Art Meets Gaming’ series, which sees the studio work with local artists in cities hosting major industry events. This marks the seventh such collaboration for the company.

Character makeover

For the Lisbon edition, Gonçalo MAR incorporated leaf and flower motifs into depictions of characters from BGaming titles including Aztec Clusters, Elvis Frog TrueWays, Aztec Magic Megaways and Book of Cats. MAR, who has spent 25 years exhibiting across Portugal and received the Medal of Cultural Merit from the Municipal Chamber of Seixal in 2022, is known for combining comic book, floral and street art influences.

The resulting artwork will be displayed at BGaming’s stand during SBC Summit, which takes place in Lisbon from 24 to 26 September. The provider has also produced branded merchandise for partners and attendees at the event.

Community donation

As part of the partnership, BGaming will make a donation to the European Intercultural Club, a Portuguese non-profit founded in 1998 that supports youth education, training and employability through activities centred on democracy, human rights and equality.

Kate Puteiko, chief marketing officer at BGaming, said the collaboration builds on the company’s reputation for creative partnerships and experimentation, adding that MAR would be reimagining the studio’s characters ahead of their appearance at the Lisbon event.

Gonçalo MAR described himself as a street artist whose work is intended to communicate through public spaces, and said the partnership stemmed from BGaming’s connection to street art. He said transforming the game characters into his own style had been a rewarding creative challenge.

BGaming said it intends to continue supporting local artists in cities that host major industry gatherings as part of its wider community engagement approach.
