Department of Trust unveils combined ID and risk check tool for gambling operators

Department of Trust, the London-based provider of player risk assessment tools for the gambling sector, has launched Complete ID, an expansion of its Complete platform that combines age and address verification with configurable risk assessment features.

The company describes Complete ID as the first industry tool to merge multi-source identity checks with risk scoring built specifically for gambling operators. Through a single API integration, operators can add extra risk factors to standard ID checks and set their own scoring criteria to help decide whether to open an account for a new customer.

The verification element draws on a range of data sources, including official records, credit files and financial institution data, which the company says offers stronger assurance than tools originally designed for the financial services sector.

Existing customers get immediate access

All operators already using DoTrust’s Complete platform can begin using Complete ID straight away via the existing API and secure console, without additional onboarding steps.

Addressing sector-specific onboarding needs

Charles Cohen, chief executive of Department of Trust, said operators had asked the company to apply its gambling sector expertise to identity verification, arguing that tools built for banks and other financial firms do not adequately serve gambling operators. He said such legacy systems can be costly, have lower match rates, and fail to account for factors relevant to gambling risk assessment.

Cohen said the new tool aims to achieve high identity match rates by combining established data sources with additional ones not typically available to gambling operators through legacy providers. He added that identity verification alone is no longer sufficient, noting that many operators already run separate checks for politically exposed persons, sanctions, fraud and vulnerability indicators around registration. Complete ID is designed to bring these checks together in one system with full operator control over how results are scored.

Department of Trust, founded by Cohen, also offers the BetBudget budgeting tool for consumers and is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an Account Information Service Provider. The company has offices in London, Edinburgh and Gibraltar and is backed by investors including Tekkorp Capital. It says the Complete platform has been developed with an eye on the UK government’s ongoing review of the Gambling Act, which is expected to require more frequent player risk evaluations.
