EvenBet Gaming report finds regulation and expansion topping industry concerns in 2024

EvenBet Gaming, a developer of online poker software, has published its 2024 Trends Report, an annual study examining the challenges and priorities facing the global iGaming sector. The e-book draws on responses from over 350 industry professionals across marketing, technical development and sales functions, with chief executives and stakeholders making up the largest group of respondents at 31%.

For the second consecutive year, regulatory pressure and market competition were flagged as the most pressing concerns. Respondents also pointed to growing difficulty in keeping pace with technology adoption, particularly around artificial intelligence, alongside challenges in recruiting suitably qualified staff as new jurisdictions introduce their own compliance requirements and demand for localised expertise increases.

Expansion and technology dominate priorities

Expansion, both into emerging markets and more broadly, emerged as the leading priority, accounting for 53% of responses as companies continue to compete for market share. Technological development followed, cited by 16% of participants, with a particular focus on personalised customer experiences, product innovation and AI adoption. The report notes that AI’s role was especially significant in Asian markets.

AI was referenced throughout the findings as a tool for content production, personalisation, customer support and fraud prevention, with continued investment reported in integrating machine learning into both development and day-to-day operations.

Other findings

The report also touches on interest in virtual reality and metaverse applications among senior executives, though financial and infrastructure constraints were cited as barriers to wider adoption. It found that social media’s role in industry news consumption has declined, falling from 31% in 2023 to 15% in 2024, with conferences and online media outlets now close behind. Marketing channel preferences were also shown to vary by region, with social media remaining the dominant source of industry news in Asia. On recruitment, both employees and senior executives identified a supportive, professional team culture as the key factor in attracting talent.

Dmitry Starostenkov, chief executive of EvenBet Gaming, said the report was the company’s most comprehensive to date, incorporating expert commentary alongside survey data to provide additional context for readers. He noted that the high proportion of CEO and stakeholder respondents offered insight drawn from extensive industry experience, and said the findings reflected a year of change and shifting demands across the sector.
