Gambling Commission pushes back deposit limit deadline to September 2026

The Gambling Commission has moved the deadline for online operators to offer customers gross deposit limits from 30 June 2026 to 30 September 2026.

The regulator said the extension was granted to give operators more time for technical development and compliance work ahead of the requirement coming into force.

From the new deadline, all Great Britain-licensed online operators must make gross deposit limits available to customers. The limits must be labelled ‘deposit limits’ and displayed with at least equal prominence to any other financial limits offered on an operator’s site.

Customer funds protection

Alongside the deposit limit deadline change, the Commission has set out plans to strengthen how customer funds are protected. Further detail on this element has not yet been published.

Call for burden-reduction proposals

Separately, the Commission has issued a call for the industry to put forward proposals aimed at reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens without weakening consumer protections. This call for evidence closes on 25 September 2026.

The regulator has not specified which areas of regulation it expects proposals to target, leaving it open to operators and trade bodies to identify where requirements could be simplified while safeguards for consumers remain in place.

The two developments, a delayed but firm deadline for deposit limits and an invitation to streamline regulation elsewhere, suggest the Commission is seeking to balance ongoing consumer protection reforms with industry calls for a lighter compliance load in other areas.

Operators now have until the end of September 2026 to ensure their systems can display and administer gross deposit limits in line with the naming and prominence rules set out by the Commission. Those wishing to contribute to the burden-reduction review have until 25 September 2026 to submit proposals.
