Ryan Moore signs on as World Pool ambassador for 2025

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), which created and powers World Pool, has named jockey Ryan Moore as an ambassador for the commingled horse racing betting platform for the 2025 season, the organisation announced on Friday 14 February.

Moore, stable jockey for Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle operation and a four-time winner of the LONGINES World’s Best Jockey award, will ride at several major World Pool meetings this year. As part of the ambassadorial role, he will produce blogs and commentary ahead of key racedays and appear in marketing campaigns for the brand.

Commenting on the partnership, Moore said World Pool had become a significant addition to the racing industry in recent years and praised the HKJC’s investment in the product, describing Hong Kong’s racing model as a template for the sport globally. He said the initiative allowed racing fans worldwide to bet into larger pools and argued that closer cooperation across racing jurisdictions would benefit the sport as a whole.

HKJC chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said Moore’s standing in the sport and his advocacy for World Pool’s global impact made him a fitting representative for the brand.

Growth of World Pool

According to the HKJC, its contribution to British and Irish racecourses through World Pool passed £50 million in 2024. The UK and Ireland Flat season closed with a record turnover when a composite 12-race card from Australia combined with British Champions Day at Ascot on 19 October generated HK$424.1 million (about £48 million) in a single day, the highest daily total recorded. Total turnover for the season reached approximately HK$4.6 billion (around £455 million).

Engelbrecht-Bresges said World Pool would expand further in 2025, with additional fixtures, races and split cards. New Zealand has been added as a host nation for the first time, and all 12 Hong Kong Group 1 races this year will run under the World Pool banner. The platform has already staged debut fixtures in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and the UAE this year.

Upcoming World Pool fixtures include Futurity Stakes Day at Caulfield in Australia and Saudi Cup Day at King Abdulaziz in Saudi Arabia on 22 February, followed by the Hong Kong Gold Cup and Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin the next day. Further fixtures are scheduled in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa through to the end of March.
