Yggdrasil launches Valley of the Dead OnlyWins slot with new GEM mechanic

Yggdrasil released Valley of the Dead OnlyWins on 21 November 2024, a high volatility slot that debuts the studio’s new Game Engagement Mechanic (GEM) called OnlyWins.

The title, part of an existing game series, offers maximum wins of up to 5,800 times the stake. Gameplay is built around destroying Blockers, unlocking Multipliers and triggering Second-Chance Lives.

How the mechanic works

Every winning spin triggers a Respin, with each winning symbol destroying a Blocker and opening up additional ways to win, rising to a maximum of 3,125 Ways. Once all Blockers on the reels are cleared, an unlimited win multiplier is activated, increasing by 1x whenever five blue-marked winning symbols are collected.

Clearing all Blockers also enables Extra Lives. Collecting five red-marked winning symbols awards an Extra Life, which triggers a further Respin even when there is no winning combination on that spin.

OnlyWins GEM

The headline feature is the new OnlyWins GEM. When activated for a stake of 4.4 times the bet, it gives players a 99.99% chance of landing a winning combination on that spin, increasing the frequency with which the Bonus Game is unlocked. Players also have the option to buy ten consecutive OnlyWins spins through a Multi OnlyWins purchase.

The release adds to Yggdrasil’s GEM portfolio, which the company says includes some of its strongest-performing titles to date.

Tomasz Kowalik, Head of Games Production at Yggdrasil, said the release continues the legacy of the existing IP while introducing OnlyWins as a new addition to the company’s mechanics portfolio. He added that staying ahead of innovation and delivering differentiated content remains a priority in a competitive market.

Yggdrasil, founded in 2013, is headquartered in Sweden with additional offices in Malta, Poland and Gibraltar. Its GEM portfolio now comprises ten mechanics, alongside other initiatives such as its BOOST promotional toolset.
