Yggdrasil launches Game in a Box platform to speed up slot development

Yggdrasil has announced the launch of Game in a Box, a platform aimed at streamlining the full lifecycle of slot creation, from concept through building, testing, certification and delivery.

The company says the tool uses integrated automation to remove production bottlenecks that have traditionally slowed slot development, allowing studios to move away from reskins and recycled mechanics towards more original content. According to Yggdrasil, the platform automates repetitive tasks and speeds up quality assurance and certification, giving development teams more capacity for creative work.

Aims to cut costs and speed up releases

Yggdrasil lists several intended benefits of the platform, including faster time to market, reduced overheads through automation, more scope for creative experimentation, and the ability to scale across both small independent studios and larger content pipelines.

Alex Haywood, Managing Director and CTO at Yggdrasil, said the project began after the company’s mathematicians initially considered it unworkable, prompting Yggdrasil to assemble a team of engineers, mathematics PhDs and automation specialists to rebuild the slot creation process from the ground up.

James Curwen, CEO of Yggdrasil, described the platform as a major shift in how slot games are conceived and brought to market.

Rollout plans

Yggdrasil is currently testing Game in a Box internally. The first title built entirely on the platform, Raptor 2, is scheduled to launch in November 2025. The company says three additional slot brands are already in talks to become early adopters ahead of a wider rollout.

Yggdrasil plans to launch a dedicated landing page with a waitlist for studios interested in early access, citing limited availability before full release. The company is also in discussions with AWS to explore cloud-based distribution of the platform for YGG Masters studios globally.

Game in a Box adds to a list of previous innovations from Yggdrasil, including its BOOST promotional toolset and Game Engagement Mechanics (GEMs) framework.
