Joseph Hiller named president and CEO of iGaming Ontario

iGaming Ontario has announced the appointment of Joseph Hiller as its new president and chief executive, effective 8 September 2026.

Hiller most recently served as chief of staff to Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey, a role in which he was closely involved in developing and launching Canada’s first private-sector-driven regulated igaming market.

According to iGaming Ontario, Hiller also played a part in the creation of iGaming Ontario itself, the organisation responsible for overseeing the province’s regulated online gambling sector.

The appointment marks a shift for Hiller from a government policy role into leadership of the regulatory body he helped bring into existence. iGaming Ontario said his experience in shaping the framework for the market positions him to lead the organisation into its next phase.

Background

Ontario’s igaming market, launched with the involvement of iGaming Ontario, was the first in Canada to operate under a private-sector-driven regulated model, allowing licensed operators to offer online casino and sports betting products to players in the province.
